Following successful projects and a strong working relationship with a previous client, Shanco was recommended for the Riverside Medical Centre groundworks by a new project manager arriving at CityBuild.

The whole job involves the construction of an extension to the existing medical centre, to enable the facility to cope with increased demands and differing needs of users. The medical centre needs to remain operational throughout the course of the job, meaning that the groundworks section (entailing multiple large vehicle deliveries) had to be carefully sequenced and managed to protect vulnerable members of the public.

The site is very constrained, being an extension of the existing structure into the only available space on site. Works included an entire site strip and reduced level dig before stoning up to receive the foundations. The installation of new drainage was then carried out, as well as the diversion of existing routes.

The new structure will sit on a reinforced concrete raft slab with thickeners. Shanco installed all reinforcement and shuttering and cast the slab using a pump, all while maintaining constant, safe access to the facility.
