Extensive Pre-contract Planning Ensures Shanco Achieve Customers Critical Deadline

Kerfoot Oils Value: £500,000

Shanco completed the construction of a 500,000 litre reinforced concrete bund to house fourteen steel silos for the safe storage of cooking oils. The project included site remediation and investigation; the location and exposure of existing utility services and extensive CFA piling works.

The deadline for the completion of the project was critical as the customer was switching from regular deliveries of oil, to storing bulk quantities and the new facility had to be ready. To ensure this was achieved, Shanco was appointed as the Principal Contractor and the team had several months of pre-planning and early engagement with the customer, whilst working closely with the design team to confirm technical details prior to starting on site. This enabled the project to progress quickly and the critical deadline was achieved.

The project was carried out at a live port with regular deliveries, so it was important that our works had no adverse effect on these activities. We provided advanced notice of expected deliveries to the port security team and liaised with Associated British Ports to develop suitable environmental and risk management procedures for working next to a busy industrial dock site.
